Final Presentation: The final presentation will be broken up into two parts.
1. Your team will have 5 minutes to present to the Governor. During that presentation you can use charts, pictures, posters, graphs, models, displays or other creative ideas of your own to try and convince him that your method of travel is the best for the future of Ohio. PowerPoint, or other technology based presentations is not an option.
Before preparing your presentation for the Governor:
Watch the two short videos about persuading others.
Print out the Persuasive Writing Organizer to assist you in preparing your oral presentation.
Complete the Persuasive Writing Organizer as a team.
Write out your persuasive argument as a speech.
Create any visuals that will accompany your presentations.
When you have all of your materials prepared your team will want to practice your presentation. You want to impress the Governor with your knowledge about your mode of transportation. Your presentation needs to run seemlessly.
A word from the Governor:
I recently had the opportunity to speak with Mordecai Bartley (The governor of Ohio in 1845). He told me that some of the things he was interested in learning before he makes his final decision are:
the cost of the project
the long term stability of the method of transportation
the environment impact
what nearby states are doing to solve the same problem
2. One member of your team will participate in a question and answer session. The governor is going to come prepared with questions to ask. You will not know what the questions are ahead of time. The team member who participates in this should have an excellent knowledge about the method of transportation they are representing. They should also be quick thinkers.
Grading: The attached grading rubric will be used to grade the final product. Some parts of the rubric will be the same for everyone on the team. Other parts will be graded separately for each individual. The team who impresses the Governor the most will get bonus points for every member on the team.
